Nepalese community is one of the rapidly growing communities in Canada. Toronto is the first choice of new immigrants and most of the immigrants from Nepal have made Toronto their hometown. Srijansil Nepali Samaj (SNS) Canada has emerged from the Nepalese Canadian community with the objective of uniting all Nepalese and building a network to extend mutual support along with preserving, promoting, and transforming the Nepali language, culture, and values.
Srijansil Nepali Samaj (SNS) Canada is a Not-for-Profit Organization established in August 21, 2015 and incorporated in October 2018, and working to foster greater knowledge and understanding of arts, culture, values and social customs among the Nepalese Canadian living in the Greater Toronto Area. SNS has been conducting different activities in the community since its establishment. It celebrates annual picnic, organizes programs on the auspicious occasion of Teej, Dashain, Tihar, New Year and many more.
In the past Toronto Downtown was the major hub for most of the Nepalese immigrants when Nepali Canadian living in East York and Scarborough areas were few in numbers. The community numbers living in these areas gradually increased because of the facilities and atmosphere appropriate for the people based on their social and cultural need. Different available services/facilities and Nepali Canadian already residing in the locality attracted newcomers to live in these neighbourhoods. Currently, East York and Scarborough are one of the preferred areas to live in for the Nepalese people. At present, more than 1000 families along with thousands of students live in these areas. Realizing the need of making community activities organized and communicating and coordinating with all the Nepalese Canadian living in the vicinity for the mutual support and benefit, we formed an informal group during a summer picnic gathering in 2015 and named it Srijansil Nepali Samaj (SNS) Canada. "Srijansil" is a Nepali word for creativity and the "Samaj" means community. With the objective of doing creative and noble activities in the community along with celebrating different Nepalese culture among friend and families, we formed Srijansil Nepali Samaj (SNS) Canada which was incorporated as a Not-for-Profit Organization in 2018.
